FERRAN AND FERNANDO MONJE JOIN DRIVEX FOR WINTER SERIES EVENT
Madrid, 11 March 2014. Drivex will take part in the last round of the 2014 Winter Series at the famous Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where the International GT Open will have a general rehearsal previous to the season debut in May. As the team will enter its Porsche 997 GT3 RSR 2012, two new drivers of high prestige join Drivex: Ferrán and Fernando Monje.
The Catalan drivers, father and son, have large experience in different motorsport categories achieving international success. While Ferrán will debut with Drivex, Fernando competed with the team three years ago, driving a Dallara F308 in the European F3 Open, reflecting his speed from an early age. Monje Jr., aged 20, claimed his main achievement to date in 2012 taking the title in the ETCC – never before a Spaniard had achieved it- and bringing home the Nations Cup for Spain. In the case of Ferrán, he won the 24 hours of Barcelona in 2009 and the 24 hours of Dubai in 2010, and his racing background also includes several seasons in the International GT Open and the Spanish GT championship.
In spite of it will be the first outing for both with the Porsche 997 GT3 RSR 2012, their vast experience and the Drivex staff will be important factors to consider, as a large representation of international teams are expected to be in Montmeló. There are scheduled eight test sessions, four each day – Friday and Saturday-.
Quotes:
Ferrán Monje: “I am looking forward to pair with my son, as we both definitely share the same passion for motorsport. Fernando is enthusiastic about this chance, because it will be the first time driving a GT car and my function will be to help him.”
Fernando Monje: “It is going to be my debut in GT racing, but at least Barcelona is a very well-known circuit for me, so our odds are there. It a return to RWD cars, just like during Formula 3 days. It is nice to join Drivex once again, because they were my last Formula 3 teams and I felt at home with them. To team up with my father is another plus, because I will be able to learn from his experience with GT cars.”
Miguel Ángel de Castro: “I am very satisfied as we have this family saga with us again. We have been talking about them joining GTs, and Drivex always recommended them this option. I think they both shall enjoy this experience, and obviously we will do the same! It is so nice and encouraging to work with Fernando again. The experience gained in the WTCC is going to be useful in GTs”. |
